Challenge

In 2018, MADE Chamber, led by President and CEO Sherry Taylor,established the Mason Deerfield Community Development Corporation (CDC). The CDC was established to focus and coordinate public and private efforts to grow the Mason-Deerfield region.  While CDCs are an often-used concept in towns and cities across the U.S., it’s not often leveraged in prosperous suburbs like Mason and Deerfield.

In the Fall of 2019, Taylor identified the need to develop a clear communication of the vision and plan for the new CDC.“We need 100% buy in from both leadership teams and key community members on this new direction,” Taylor said. 

Solution

Taylor and Amy Connor, President and Owner of CMO-OnLoan, MADE Chamber member, connected to discuss the situation in the fall of 2019. Taylor and Connor developed a project scope and initial thinking for the approach to define a clear brand architecture for the multiple organizations, create a unique value proposition for the CDC and a messaging strategy for the plan.

Approach

After mapping out a plan, CMO-OnLoan conducted more than twenty interviews with key stakeholders across several organizations, benchmarked other successful communities and drafted the messaging strategy. They created a brand architecture to delineate the various organizations, their purpose, and their role.CMO-OnLoan then developed and facilitated a joint strategy session with the MADE Chamber and CDC boards.

After the session, Taylor and CMO-OnLoan further refined the brand architecture and message for board approval. They also drafted talking points and tools for Taylor to share with community stakeholders for the next phase of the CDC roll-out.

  • In 2019, the Mason Deerfield (MADE) Chamber chartered an innovative organization, the Community Development Corporation, to help advance the mission of the region.
  • Sherry Taylor, President and CEO of the MADE Chamber identified the need to create a unified message for all of the regions organizations in order to successfully enhance the health of the region.
  • Taylor connected with CMO-OnLoan and partnered with them to create the unified message.
  • The organizations are now able to clearly and confidently communicate the vision and plan and are making progress enrolling community stakeholders.

Results

Through the guidance of CMO-OnLoan, Taylor and the two boards can now articulate a clear, unified message to enlist and enroll investors and community members.
