Client Spotlight: Chef’s Cafe

by Amy Connor, MBA

Chef’s Cafe was built from heart, resilience, and a deep belief in hospitality. When Laura and Paul Miranda took ownership of the long-time Cincinnati cafe, they stepped into far more than a deli counter. They stepped into a community hub and legacy brand with a goal of creating something both deeply familiar and entirely their own.

Transitioning to Business Owners

Chef’s Cafe had a loyal following long before Laura and Paul arrived. But buying a small, family-owned business after COVID made the transition anything but simple. Neither had owned a business before, but they took a leap of faith. They were suddenly learning everything at once, showing up every day for a team and guests who counted on them, and working to figure out what role Chef’s Cafe would play in the world. “We were running a new-to-us business and trying to figure out how to honor the history of this place, while also making it our own,” Laura shared.

Finding the Story Beneath the Sandwiches

Before Paul and Laura connected with CMO-OnLoan through a mutual friend, requests to donate, advertise, and promote were coming from every direction, and everything felt urgent.

Laura explained, “I knew we had something special, but needed a way to explain it. It’s not home and it’s not work, but it is this ‘third place’. A place where people feel known, welcomed, and cared for. The food matters, but the relationships matter just as much.”

Amy Connor and the CMO-OnLoan team started by listening. Together, they dug into what truly made Chef’s Cafe different. The fresh, made-from-scratch food. Paul’s world-class culinary expertise and his elevated take on deli classics. The warmth guests feel the moment they walk through the door.

“When a brand has clarity, everything gets easier,” Amy said. “Chef’s Cafe already had the food, heart, and hospitality. Our job was to help them put words and structure around it.”

From defining their brand personality and secret sauce to developing messaging, a content calendar, and marketing plans for catering and carryout, the work was as much about focus as it was about growth.

Turning Clarity into Confidence

With a clearer brand foundation, Laura found herself making decisions with confidence. Exterior signage, window messaging, social content, and website updates all began to work together, telling one cohesive story. “I’m proud of how far we came with the content calendar, plans, and signage,” Laura said.

The team at Chef’s Cafe now shares a common language about who they are and what they promise.

“They make every guest feel at home,” Amy said. “Chef’s Cafe is one of those hidden gems where simple deli favorites come with a touch of creativity and a lot of care.”

Looking Ahead with Gratitude and Vision

As Chef’s Cafe looks to the future, Laura and Paul are excited about expanding their takeout and catering presence, with dreams of a standalone building that allows them to serve even more of their community without losing what makes the cafe special.

For Laura, having CMO-OnLoan in their corner made a difference during a demanding season.

“As a business owner doing a hundred things, it was such a relief to have someone on our team. You can’t be great at everything, and the support from CMO-OnLoan gave me the opportunity to focus on other aspects of the business.”

Chef’s Cafe is proof that with the right guidance, clarity, and heart, small businesses can honor their roots while confidently stepping into what comes next.
